As part of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Pretoria, the Department of Radiation Oncology plays an important role in maintaining health standards through quality education, research and community service.

The discipline Radiation Oncology forms part of the Radiation sciences- comprising Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Oncology. While Radiology and Nuclear Medicine are concerned with the diagnosis of disease including cancer, Radiation Oncology involves the treatment of cancer using most often high energy X- Rays or photons.
