Dr Y Hlophe is the course guardian of the 3rd year Psychoneuroimmunology and Higher Cognitive Function module offered by the Department of Physiology. In this module, students are not only learning about physiology, but are also being introduced to concepts of social justice, sustainable development goals outlined by the World Health Organisation, critical thinking through reflection, research methodology and an appreciation of African health and science. This module includes guest lecturers who bring an innovative perspective to the above-mentioned concepts.

On May 12th, 2023, Ms. Zukisa Tshabalala, the coordinator of the Bachelor of Clinical Medical Practice (BCMP) program from the Department of Family Medicine, School of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, presented a lecture on the Management of HIV/AIDS in South Africa using case studies from her clinical experiences at the Tshwane District Hospital. The lecture generated visible excitement and curiosity through the interaction with students and Ms Tshabalala.

In addition, Ms. Tshabalala encouraged students to consider applying for the clinical associate program, marking the beginning of a new collaborative education venture between the Department of Physiology and the Department of Family Medicine.
