Unathi attended the first UCL-WITS Preclinical 3D modelling in cancer research workshop science award for the best project proposal and hypothesis. This award celebrates the best hypothesis generated using publicly available data for the use of in vitro models in a cancer research project. This was the first workshop of its kind in South Africa and brought together speakers from around the country and from UCL to showcase some of the work done in this field as a way to prepare young scientists to enter this exciting field. Prof. van den Bout also gave a presentation showing how such models can be used in an effective way in a South African research setting.
