Physiology MSc student wins UP Postgraduate Research Day awards

Ms Charlise Basson, an MSc student from the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Health Sciences presented at the UP Postgraduate Research Day on 26 August 2022. The goal of the research day was to exhibit the importance of communicating one’s research to a general and scientific community. In the MSc category of the UP Postgraduate Research Day, “Visualise Your Thesis”, participating students had to present their research project in one minute. Charlise, presented an animated video on metastatic melanoma, entitled: “Striving to Stop the Spread”, which won the people’s choice award. In addition to this award, she also received the overall second place in the competition, awarded by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Tawana Kupe. 

Ms Basson’s research successfully demonstrates interdepartmental collaboration within the Faculty of Health Sciences, as well as the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences making the UP Postgraduate Research Day awards’ event a hub to promote interdisciplinary research to further nurture exisisting collaborations and to expand future collaborations.
