The Department of Mining Engineering in the University of Pretoria’s Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology successfully hosted the annual MASUP Presidential Golf Day at the Pretoria Country Club on 2 December 2022. This fundraising event is held annually in association with the Mining Alumni Society of the University of Pretoria (MASUP) to raise funds for students in need.

The day was attended by 92 players from 15 mining companies. It was proudly sponsored by Solar Mining, Point of Rental Software, Honeywell, ERG, Tumelo Coal Mine, Komatsu, Ukukusiza, VBKOM and UMS International. The organisers appreciate the valued support of these sponsors.

The Gudzman Trophy was awarded to the winning team from Solar Mining, who accumulated 65 points after playing 18 holes. The prize for the longest drive went to Rudolf Dinkelmann. Danie Wessels won the prize for the nearest to the pin for Hole 5 and Johann Valentine was the nearest to the pin for Hole 14. Players won a variety of prizes, including branded merchandise, two professional safety training vouchers from Ukukusiza worth R20 000 each, and a unique carbon fibre hard hat sponsored by ERG.

The event was concluded with a gala dinner and awards ceremony hosted by Riaan Gilfillan, the current President of MASUP.
