Anti-Discrimination and Social Justice Week 30 September - 4 October 2019

Posted on October 04, 2019

This is a campus-wide event, and each of the respective faculties has launched an individual campaign in support of creating a better society.

The theme chosen by the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology is: “Use your privilege to tackle discrimination”. The challenge posed to its students is to take 15 minutes out of each day this week to learn more about the challenges faced by people in our community. A website has been developed for this purpose with links that are aimed at raising awareness about various forms of discrimination, with the objective of reducing discrimination in our communities and society.

The purpose of the Faculty’s campaign is to encourage students to be an ally: someone who stands up to and prevents discriminatory action, behaviour and words. The campaign also directs students who are in need of support to a number of campus resources that are available.
