EBIT Week at Mining Engineering

Posted on April 08, 2019

The EBIT Week is a four-day holiday programme presented by the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology (EBIT) biannually for learners in Grade 10, 11 and 12. The Department of Mining Engineering welcomed the EBIT week learners on the 25th of February 2019.

Presentations were given to the learners that explained the importance of mining and gave the learners the opportunity to learn what a mining engineer does and what the department can offer them. The learners were also taken on a tour through the Virtual Reality Centre where they saw how immersive technology such as virtual reality can be used and integrated in mining activities.

On the 27th of February a visit to the Lyttelton Dolomite Mine was held for the interested learners. The mine visit was very successful, and the learners were able to experience what mining is in real life.
