SAIMM Student Colloquium – 2015

The Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy has been organising and presenting an annual Student Colloquium since 2002, to give the best final year mining and metallurgical students from most Southern African academic institutions an opportunity to present their final year projects to a mining and metallurgical audience. This year, the Mining Engineering Department of the University of Pretoria were awarded the top 3 places.

First price went to Gerco Lindeque, with the project title:  Increasing tyre life of the truck fleet at Kolomela Mine. Second price was awarded to Gerard Kleyn and his project was titled: “Causes of Substandard Practices and the effect on Safety Performances in South African gold mines. Joint third price was awarded to Jeethen Singh, and his project was “The optimization of chain road development at New Denmark Colliery.

Dr. Bertie Meyer, a senior lecturer, represented the Department during the colloquium. We are extremely proud of our students and we want to wish then all success and happiness in their future endeavours.
