UP’s Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering cemented its status at the top of the QS rankings for mechanical engineering in South Africa in the latest 2024 results, again coming first in South Africa.

Furthermore, the department climbed in the overall rankings from previous years, now being placed among the top 251-300 departments in the world to study mechanical, aeronautical, or manufacturing engineering.

The QS World University Rankings rank 1500 institutions and departments across 104 countries, using a combination of academic and employer reputation gained from surveys, the global engagement the department has through research partnerships, as well as the research impact of the academic papers the staff and postgraduate students publish.
