Thank you for successful first FreeCAD User conference

Posted on March 17, 2023

The (online) inaugural 2023 FreeCAD (& free CAE) conference that ran from 1 - 3 March 2023 was a huge success! We've had 14 excellent presentations from all over the world - thank you to each of the presenters for showcasing the wonderful abilities of FreeCAD and the fantastic Workbenches that have been and are continuously being developed.

The presentations of the various speakers are available here.

Thank you also to the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and IT at the University of Pretoria/Universiteit van Pretoria and specifically the Department of Mechanical & Aeronautical Engineering for allowing us to host the conference under a very proud banner that has been established over the course of 6 decades.

I have deep gratitude towards Engineering X, the Royal Academy of Engineering & Lloyd’s Register Foundation. The funding that I was awarded and that made the conference possible is part of the Engineering X Engineering Skills Where They are Most Needed Mission, which seeks to support the delivery of skills and education programmes that will lead to development of much needed engineering skills capacity, enhanced safety standards, and infrastructure that remains safe and fit for purpose.

A special thank you goes to Varnu Govender who acted as my right hand with all the arrangements, and for facilitating the Hopin formalities as the online platform we used.

Now it's getting to work on next year's FreeCAD (& free CAE) Users Conference that is envisaged as a hybrid (in person & online) event!
