Valediction 2007

The valediction ceremony of the Class of 2007 was held on 15 November with nearly 400 guests present. A host of dignitaryes and industry representatives attended the ceremony that was sponsored by Fraser Alexander BulkMech, Bell Equipment, and 9 Dot Solutions.
 
Three of the best students gave presentations of their final year projects. They were:

Tersius Middel concerning his development and testing of an internal wheel load cell
 /sitefiles/Image/44/2163/news/valed07-mh.jpg Melissa Hallquist on her work on the analysis of heat transfer coefficients for laminar and turbulent flow in smooth tubes
/sitefiles/Image/44/2163/news/valed07-rs.jpg Ridhwaan Suliman, explained how he improved a flow-pattern-based heat transfer correlation for low-mass flux refrigerant condensation in smooth horizontal tubes.
 Several awards were presented during the evening:
 
Tersius Middel: Most Meritorious Mechanical Engineering Design Student. Sponsored by the MMD Group of Companies. Tersius wins an all expenses paid visit to the biggest mining equipment exhibition in the world, Las Vegas 2008.

Ridhwaan Suliman: Sasol Prize for most meritorious design in the 3rd year of study in 2006.
 
Lionel Prinsloo: Sasol Prize for Best 2rd Year student in 2006.
