Grade 9 subject choice week

Posted on March 15, 2021

This past week Grade 9-learners for Mamelodi had the opportunity to determine the subjects they must choose in Grade 10. A Memorandum of Agreement was signed between the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and the Career HUB (University of Pretoria, Mamelodi campus) to foster future cooperation to assist a tertiary going awareness in the Mamelodi precinct. With the help of DHET’s online National Career Advice Portal (NCAP), learners are assessed for subject choice through the Career HUB.

Ms Bridgette Makgareetsa trained 15 alumni from the Extended Curriculum Programmes to assist the learners. Learners also had the opportunity afterwards to search for more information about their careers they were interested in, ask questions and speak to alumni and senior students that are currently studying in STEM and Commercial degrees. The specific results per learner will be printed out and returned to the schools for the Life Orientation teachers to assist learners with their subject choices. The team under the leadership of Ms Ida Meyer reflected that the programme was successful and the learners from Nellmapius Secondary School, Mahube Valley Secondary School, J Kekana Secondary School, Phateng Secondary School and Solomon Mahlangu Freedom College in Mamelodi could be assisted with these important choices.
