Research profile

Samy Katumba is a lecturer in the Department of Geography, Geoinformatics and Meteorology at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Samy’s research interests are scattered in the fields of spatial statistics, spatial econometrics, Web GIS, spatial analysis, geospatial data mining, machine learning and online geo-information retrieval. Samy has a keen interest in studying the spatial dimension of socio-economic phenomena such as poverty, inequality, diversity/segregation, etc., by analysing relevant geospatial data using methods from spatial statistics, spatial econometrics and machine learning. Samy Katumba is a Professional Natural Scientist (specialising in Geospatial Science), registered with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP).
