The Centre for Child Law, situated within the esteemed Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria, is acknowledged as a beacon of dedication and excellence. Established in 1998, this year marks the 25th anniversary of commitment to making children’s rights a reality.

The journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. As the Centre celebrates its silver jubilee, the Faculty of Law joins in a moment to reflect on the achievements that have defined the past 25-year journey.

The success of the Centre in championing the best interests of children within communities is testified to by its multifaceted approach. Through education, research, advocacy, and strategic litigation, it has become a formidable force, contributing to developments in its strategic focus areas.

This milestone also serves as a tribute to its founding and journey through the years. The devotion of its staff and partners, as well as unwavering support from the University and the Faculty, has been the cornerstone of success under the present Director, Ms Karabo Ozah, and her predecessors. Generous support from funders and colleagues has been critical in fuelling effective projects.

The commitment to promoting litigation for impact, influencing academic discourse, producing evidence-based research, and actively participating in policy and legislative reform, is evident in the Centre’s trajectory of success. As the Centre continues, it is poised to enhance its role in shaping the landscape of Child Law.

In tribute to its illustrious history, a special edition of De Jure was launched, dedicated to the Founding Director, Emeritus Professor Trynie Boezaart. This edition stands as a testament to Prof. Boezaart's indelible contribution and will inspire generations to come.
