A Night of Transition and Celebration: Law House Farewell and Welcome Dinner

The evening of September 27th marked a momentous occasion for Law House, as members of the student body gathered to bid a fond farewell to the outgoing executive committee and extend a warm welcome to their successors. In honour of Law House, a vibrant and dynamic student organisation, the Dean’s office at the faculty of Law hosted a combined farewell and welcoming dinner that brought together past and present leaders to celebrate their achievements and embrace the promising future that lies ahead.
 
The dinner program kicked off with a heartfelt welcome address by the Dean of the faculty of law, Professor Elsabe Schoeman, who following the official salutations said “Law House plays a very important role in the Law Faculty, you are really our communication with the students and concluded her talk by saying “To the departing Law House EC, from me as Dean, a huge  thank you”.
 
It was followed by the outgoing executive committee Chairperson Jeandre Otto, who shared some words of  gratitude to his executive committee members and the Law House guardian Dr Tshepiso Ngoepe and the Dean’s office for their support throughout their term. They tirelessly worked throughout the year to uphold Law House's values and mission. Their dedication and passion did not go unnoticed, and the evening was an opportunity to express heartfelt gratitude for their outstanding contributions.
 
The newly elected Chairperson, Matthew Du Preez extended congratulations to the outgoing executive committee asserting that they had “big shoes to fill” following the excellent performance of their predecessors. He further thanked the outgoing executive committee for their support in the seamless transition of leadership rooted in mutual respect and commitment to the Law House values.
 
Dr Ngoepe, Law House guardian, shared some closing remarks, extending thanks to the Dean’s office for organising the event and Mr Sipho Carneson from DSA for availing himself for the evening. To the outgoing executive committee she said “ I am very proud of you, I think you can all be extremely proud of yourselves, I wish you all well in your future endeavours”. To the new executive committee members she asserted “ I look forward to working with you, and supporting you in all your future plans”.
 
Professor Charles Maimela later joined the gathering, echoing the sentiments of preceding speakers. He thanked the outgoing EC for the exceptional work done throughout their term and warmly welcomed the new executive committee, encouraging them to take Law House forward in their term.
 
As the evening came to a close, attendees mingled exuding a sense of nostalgia mixed with excitement for what the future held. Conversations flowed freely as attendees reminisced about past events, shared anecdotes, and expressed their appreciation for the dinner. The  dinner not only bid a fond farewell to an exceptional outgoing executive committee but had also ushered in a new era of leadership with great potential. The combined farewell and welcoming dinner was a resounding success, reinforcing the sense of community and purpose that defines the Law House.
