Celebrating 20 years of legal same-sex marriage

To commemorate this anniversary, the Centre forHuman Rights, in collaboration with Government of Flanders calls to the general public, individuals or couples who are or have been marriedunder the same-sex marriage legal system applicablein South Africa, Belgium and France to be part of theco-creation and curation process of documenting thelived realities of same-sex married couples in thesecountries through photos and videos that reflct theirjourney. Prospective participants are encouraged toindicate their interest on or before 17 October 2023.

It is important to celebrate andIt is important to celebrate andcommemorate (two) decades of thelegalization of same-sex marriagein South Africa, which runsparallel to the decade(s) markingthe anniversary of the legalizationof same-sex marriage in Belgiumand France. These anniversariesand commemorations are notjust about celebrating the queerinclusive laws and policiesbutalso provide a great opportunity torespectfully reflect on, engage withand honorably center the stories ofpersons, familiesand communitieswhose lives, dynamics and destinieshave been changed by these queerinclusive law and policies.
