The Centre for Human Rights, Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria seeks the consultancy services of an experienced consultant with research expertise to conduct a study to inform the need for the development of interpretative norms on article 22 of the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa (Maputo Protocol). The research will assess the nature of state party obligations that arise from article 22 of the Maputo Protocol and existing challenges to full and effective implementation of the provision.
The consultant will be responsible for conducting research for and preparing a report on the state obligations under on article 22 of the Maputo Protocol and the state of its implementation in member states. The research will also describe the standard set by the provision within the context of other applicable legal frameworks. A detailed research protocol will be provided to the Consultant. The work is to be completed as per the following timeline:

The final report will be no more than 12 000 words, excluding the footnotes. The position is home-based.
