UP Law congratulates Professor Jacolien Barnard from the Department of Mercantile Law on her appointment to the editorial board of the South African Law Journal (SALJ), one of our leading South African law journals.

Professor Barnard has published extensively in the area of Consumer Protection Law and related subject fields. She regularly presents her research on national and international platforms and has established several international partnerships. She is also one of the founders of and driving forces behind the University of Pretoria International Consumer Protection Law Biennial Law Conference.

Professor Barnard is the first UP Law staff member to be appointed to the editorial board of the South African Law Journal. In this new role, she will contribute to knowledge production, distribution, critique and the advancement of the discipline of law.

The members of the editorial board of the South African Law Journal hail from within the borders of South Africa and internationally. The appointment of Professor Barnard to this prestigious board is a testament to the quality of her academic contributions and the domestic and global reach of her scholarship.

Commenting on her appointment to the editorial board of one of South Africa’s premier law journals, she states: “I am very honoured and humbled to have been appointed to serve on the editorial board of the South African Law Journal”. She further says that: “It is a personal goal for me as an academic citizen to contribute in this manner, as I believe that the publication of scholarly, quality research is one of the foundations for the effective application and development of our law. As the first editor to have been appointed from the University of Pretoria, I will hold myself to the high standards of the journal and fulfil my duties diligently and with integrity.”
