South Africa UPR 4th cycle: Social Policy Initiative and Centre for Human Rights call for adoption of new composite index as recommended by United Nations Committee

As South Africa get set for the 4th cycle of its review by the UPR in November 2022, the Social Policy Initiative (SPI) and the Centre for Human Rights (Centre) have requested the UPR Working group to encourage South Africa to adopt a new composite index in accordance with the recommendations of the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.

The request was made in a joint stakeholder report submitted by SPI and Centre to the UPR Working Group. The Joint stakeholder report is part of a broader stakeholders’ efforts to provide information to the UPR working group on the implementation status of the recommendations received by South Africa during the 3rd cycle of its review by the UPR working group in 2017.
