The Faculty of Law (UP Law) at the University of Pretoria (UP) announces with pride and congratulates Elisa Rinaldi for obtaining a master of laws degree with distinction at the end of 2021.

Rinaldi, a BA Law, LLB and LLM alumna from UP Law, worked as an academic associate in the Private Law Department from February 2020 until August 2021 until her promotion to Assistant Lecturer in the same department from September 2021.  She currently lectures on Law of contract and Law of succession.

Her master’s research dissertation, under supervision of Dean Professor Elsabe Schoeman, explored the jurisdiction of the Labour Court over international employment contracts and criticised its current territorially limiting approach to disputes with foreign elements.   

According to Rinaldi, her research clarified the limitations of Private International Law within South Africa. It has further resulted in her pursuing a doctorate, also under the supervision of Schoeman, which considers the implications of legal transplants, particularly international frameworks on private international law, for the Africa continent.
