UP Law post-doctoral research fellow Dr Rimdolmsom J Kabre wins University of Lausanne prize for best doctoral dissertation

The Faculty of Law (UP Law) at the University of Pretoria (UP) proudly announces and congratulates Dr Rimdolmsom Jonathan Kabre, a post-doctoral research fellow at its International Development Law Unit (IDLU), on receiving the 2020 Law Faculty Prize at the University of Lausanne for the best doctoral dissertation. Kabre is also the Programme Manager of the LLM in International Trade and Investment Law in Africa (TILA) presented in UP Law’s Centre for Human Rights.

A delighted Prof Daniel D. Bradlow, SARCHI Professor of International Development Law and African Economic Relations, informed Dean Prof Elsabe Schoeman and Director of the Centre for Human Rights, Prof Frans Viljoen, of the good news yesterday morning. ‘I am delighted to inform you that last night (15 September 2020) at the Opening Ceremony for the 2020 courses at the University of Lausanne, Dr Jonathan Kabre, the post-doctoral fellow in IDLU, was awarded the 2020 Law Faculty Prize for the best doctoral dissertation.’  He added that in theeight months that Dr. Kabre has been working in IDLU he has continued to be a successful scholar. He has presented papers at international conferences/webinars and has submitted a number of papers for publication in leading journals.

According to Prof Andreas R Ziegler from the Lausanne University Faculty of Law, ‘Kabre, a citizen of Burkina Faso, spent seven years in Lausanne in order to obtain his MLaw (UNIL) and his PhD for his thesis entitled: ‘Le rôle des juristes privés (avocats et conseils) dans le règlement des différends impliquant les Etats’ (The role of private lawyers in the dispute settlement between States).’  Kabre successfully defended his doctoral thesis on 13 May 2019.
