On 30 October 2019, Dr Martha M Bradley, a lecturer in the Department of Public Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Pretoria and former doctoral student affiliated to the SARChI Professorship in International Law (her doctoral thesis was supervised by Prof Dr Erika De Wet and Prof Jann Kleffner) was awarded the 2019 Postdoctoral Research Fellows (PDRFs) Excellence Award at the University of Johannesburg (UJ). This award is in recognition of her outstanding contributions based on her research outputs and academic citizenship during her employ as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Johannesburg during 2018.

The criteria for the award assessed research quality, quantity of publications, collaboration in research projects, and involvement in the teaching and learning project, grants received and income generated as well as participation in national and international conferences. Dr Bradley was supervised by Prof Hennie Strydom (recipient of the South African Research Chair in International Law) during her tenure at the University of Johannesburg. Dr Bradley has expressed her gratitude to Prof Strydom and her former dean Prof Letlhokwa Mpedi for their mentorship and support during her employment at UJ.

The Faculty of Law is extremely proud of Dr Bradley’s achievement as she is not only part of our academic staff, but she holds a LLB, LLM and LLD degree from our Faculty. Dr Bradley said that she would not have been able to achieve this highlight in her career had it not been for the quality education she received at the University of Pretoria and specifically the mentorship and exposure she gained during her doctoral studies.
