SARCHI Scholar Awarded International Internship

The Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria is proud to announce that Gertrude Quan, a doctoral candidate affiliated with the Department of Private Law and the SARChI Professorship in International Constitutional Law, has been awarded an internship at Child Rights Connect.

Child Rights Connect is an international, non-governmental organisation based in Geneva, Switzerland. Child Rights Connect works with other NGOs to promote, protect and advance children’s rights at the international level. The organisation co-ordinates civil society interaction with the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child.

Child Rights Connect has awarded Gertrude Quan an internship, in which she will contribute her research to their current work. The title of Gertrude’s research is ‘A Child-Rights Analysis of the United Nations Treaty Body Jurisprudence, to inform the Emerging Jurisprudence under the Third Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child’. Gertrude will work closely with the organisation’s legal and technical teams in creating a database of children’s rights jurisprudence arising from the United Nations Human Rights Treaty Body system.

Gertrude's doctoral thesis is supervised by Prof Ann Skelton from the Department of Private Law and member of the United Nations Committee of the Rights of the Child, as well as Prof Erika de Wet, SARChI Professor of International Constitutional Law.
