Final year UP law student Vaughn Rajah to attend the United Nations Human Rights Council Session in March 2019

Posted on March 07, 2019

The Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria is proud to announce that Vaughn Rajah, a final year law student, has successfully completed a legal internship in New York, USA. Vaughn served an internship with Just Atonement Inc (JAI), a US-based legal non-profit organisation specialising in international law and human rights.  JAI has created an order of legal professionals who are using the law to address the growing global crises of war, climate change, and dictatorship.

Following on this worthwhile international experience and exposure, Vaughn has been invited to attend the 40th Session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva this March as a member of the JAI team attending and submitting statements to the Council. There is also a possibility that Vaughn will be delivering a statement to the Council.

Vaughn says that “[he] has developed a passion for international law and human rights. I am currently completing my LLB dissertation in these fields and am incredibly honoured to have had such opportunities thus far in my legal career.”

The 40th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) will be held between 25 February and 22 March 2019, at the Palais des Nations, in Geneva, Switzerland. During the session, high-level discussions will be held on various human rights related issues, such as the right to privacy, rights of persons with disabilities, rights of minorities, and rights of children.

Good luck and bon voyage, Vaughn.
