Description of Programme
The students on this Programme will register for their doctorate in one of the academic departments of the Faculty of Law. (The potential supervisors are indicated on the Faculty’s website, www.up.ac.za/law.) They will be expected to complete their studies within three years, and to publish during this time as well. In principle this is a full-time programme (this is to some extent negotiable), and students on the Programme also serve as research assistants and tutors in the Faculty. Students on the Programme participate in regular research discussions where they report on their progress, and they also attend courses on research methodology.
Admission
Admission to the programme is done according to a selection process, based inter alia on the candidate’s academic record, experience, and the relevance of the topic. A Master’s degree in law is required.
Financial Assistance
Financial assistance is available, based on merit and need. Students who do not proceed satisfactorily will not be allowed to continue from one year to the next.

The next due date for applications is the end of January 2010.
