Constitutional Court Justice Bess Nkabinde inspires law students at the University of Pretoria

Posted on August 30, 2012

Justice Nkabinde addressed staff and law students at the Faculty of Law as part of the Women in Law Project, an initiative of the Office of the Chief Justice, in celebration of Women’s Month.

Drawing on her professional experience, school years and studies, in particular her BProc studies at the University of Zululand from 1980 to 1983 during a time where successful women law students were few and far between, Justice Nkabinde inspired and motivated law students to become the best they could be, not only striving to impeccable professional conduct and for personal empowerment, but ploughing back to the community and uplifting those less privileged.  She urged the lawyers-to-be to play a significant role in shaping the law and stressed the importance of judicial independence.

Admiring law students had the opportunity to direct questions at Justice Nkabinde on a variety of contemporary legal issues at conclusion of the address. The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof André Boraine, introduced Justice Nkabinde to the audience and during the conclusion of the programme, thanked her for her valuable time, inspiring presentation and being such a great role model for the Faculty’s students.
