The book is made up of chapters written by alumni of the Centre for Human Rights' masters' programme in human rights and democratisation in Africa and dealing with various issues relating to international criminal law in Africa. The case before the ICJ dealt with a case brought by Belgium against Senegal in relation to Senegal's failure to prosecute or extradite the former president of Chad, Hissène Habré, who has been charged with atrocities committed while he held power in Chad in the 1980's. Judge Cançado Trindade specifically mentioned the chapter of Kameldy Neldjingaye, an LLM alumnus from Chad who wrote on the Habré,case.
