The SACI Young Scientist's Symposium was held at the University of Johannesburg on the 13th of September 2013. A total of 24 Masters and PhD students from various universities presented the results of their current research endeavours. All fields of chemistry were represented and ultimately the top three MSc students and top three PhD students were selected and awarded cash prizes from SACI. We are proud that one of our students, Paidamwoyo Mangondo, was awarded the first prize in the master's category with a presentation entitled: The causes of preferentail complex formation: an investigation into NTA and NTPA complexes. He is completing his MSc under the supervision of Prof Cukrowski. Another UP student, Sherilee Pillay (supervised by Dr Jeseelan Pillay (Mintek) and Prof Ozoemena (CSIR)), received the second prize in the master's category with a presentation entitled: Nano-assembly of multi-walled carbon nanotubes and gold nanorods for electrocatalysis.  Well done!
