Separation Science

In-house developed disposable or re-usable silicone rubber (PDMS) sampler for solvent-free extraction of soil, water, air, natural products, beverages, scent, skin, etc. followed by cryogenics-free injection into a GCxGC-TOFMS

Research is focused on new instrumental techniques (GCxGC-TOFMS, UPLC-QTOF-MS/MS) for the analysis of complex chemical mixtures found in the environment, in industry, in food and in living systems. A common challenge is to design equipment and solvent-free methods to analyse compounds (toxins, pheromones, odour, etc.) at lower concentrations, more reliably, in less time and at lower cost. The complexity of samples generally requires one or more chromatographic separation steps followed by in-line spectrometric detection to achieve the necessary specificity for correctly identifying and quantifying compounds of concern. Areas of application include: air and water pollution, clinical diagnostics, occupational health, essential oils, flavours and fragrances, industrial process control, petrochemicals, bio-diesel and forensic analysis.
