Overview

Brief History of the Department of Institutional Planning

The Department of Institutional Planning was established in July 2013 by bringing together erstwhile stand-alone units, namely Bureau for Institutional Research and Planning (BIRAP), Market Research Unit, Unit for Academic Planning and Quality Unit. The Market Research Unit was subsequently incorporated into BIRAP.

The Department’s divisional structure was replaced in July 2019 with a functional process-driven structure. The three units were converted into functional areas, namely Institutional Research and Analytics (replaced BIRAP) and Academic Planning and Quality, which resulted from the merger of the Unit for Academic Planning and Quality Unit. The two units were merged to ensure that quality management at the University is integrated and seamless and to strengthen capacity in the two domains.
