Comprehensive Online Education Services (COES) is proud to present a workshop with one of the world’s foremost voices in digital education – Professor Badrul Khan at the Hatfield Campus of the University of Pretoria (UP).

UP staff and those interested in digital education will engage with Professor Khan, a global pioneer in e-learning and educational technology, at a workshop to be hosted in the Graduate Centre on 30 May 2025. Widely recognised as one of the founders of modern e-learning, Professor Khan defined the field with his groundbreaking 1997 bestseller Web-Based Instruction. His visionary work laid the foundation for today’s digital learning ecosystems.

With decades of influence across academia, government, and global development agencies, Professor Khan’s frameworks continue to shape how institutions design, deliver, and evaluate flexible, learner-centred education.

The mind behind SMART Blended Learning

Professor Khan will focus on his SMART Blended Learning Approach for the UP workshop. The approach builds on his renowned 8-dimensional e-Learning Framework, offering an agile, ethical, and inclusive approach to learning in an increasingly digital and unpredictable world.

A Hall of Fame inductee of the United States Distance Learning Association and host of Khan’s Digital World, Professor Khan remains at the forefront of global discourse on meaningful, equitable education.
