Professor Fraser Stoddart’s research focuses on using molecular recognition
and self-assembly processes for the synthesis of functionalised and
mechanised molecules, a new field of organic chemistry where the
mechanical bond is the key feature of molecular compounds. The
molecules designed and synthesised in his research group have been
used as molecular switches and as motor-molecules in the fabrication of
nanoelectronic devices and NanoElectroMechanical Systems (NEMS).
