This conference was held at the University of the Witwatersrand from 16 to 21 January 2011 and was organized by the South African Chemical Institute as part of the International Year of Chemistry celebrations. Chantal’s poster was entitled “Towards the synthesis of the C(1) – C(7) fragment of the HO-FC1 and ISO-FC1 fumonisin toxins”, and is based on her research conducted under the supervision of Prof Robert Vleggaar. This was Chantal’s first conference experience, which she said she found very enjoyable, “especially seeing the different applications of chemistry”.
