Abstract:
Complex mixtures of mycolic acids and their sugar esters are present in mycobacteria, providing fingerprints for their presence but also fulfilling important biochemical functions.
The synthesis of single components of these mixtures will be described. Thus may offer opportunities in diagnosis, prevention of disease and therapy.
