Marc Creus is currently a Group Leader at the Laboratory of Molecular Evolution at the Department of Chemistry, University of Basel. He enjoys an interdisciplinary approach to science, reflected in publications in diverse domains, including bioinorganic chemistry, development of molecular diagnostics, such as single molecule detection using nanopores, and protein engineering. He has even been credited by a professional science-writer as having provided an “illustrative Richard-Feynman-like explanation” during an invited seminar to present a novel nanotechnology to journalists.
 

Born in Girona, Catalonia (Spain) in 1976, Dr Creus has an undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Durham, UK and a PhD from the University of Cambridge. He has experience both in industry and academia, since has been Chief Scientific Officer of a biotech startup company. Following a stint as a visiting research fellow at Innsbruck Medical University, Austria, Dr Creus moved to Switzerland in 2005, where he has worked both in the French and German-speaking parts of the country (Universities of Neuchâtel and Basel).

He is an active member of the several scientific societies in Switzerland and abroad and enjoys participating in science outreach programs. Dr Creus is a passionate believer in the central importance of science and chemistry in an increasingly interdisciplinary world.
