Teaching

I lecture two semester modules on the Mamelodi campus of the University of Pretoria.  The students I deal with are enrolled in an extended curriculum BSc.  In these modules students learn the foundations of chemistry, all built around the atom itself: the history of the atomic model, the tiny particles that make up the atom, what makes atoms different, how they react and how they interact and arrange themselves. Both of these modules are hybrid with online web assignments and a dedicated YouTube channel that students really enjoy.

Modules: CMY 133, CMY 143

Research interests

I am passionate about tertiary chemistry education research. Recently, colleagues in the Chemistry Department have formed a tertiary chemistry education research group.  Essentially, we aim at understanding how learning works in relation to educational and psychological theories, then using this understanding to support student learning in a rigorous way.
