Emil Roduner studied chemistry at the University of Zürich and obtained a M.Sc. in chemistry at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. Back in Zürich he got involved in muonium chemistry. For this work he was awarded the Werner Prize by the Swiss Chemical Society (1988). In 1995 he accepted a Chair of Physical Chemistry at the University of Stuttgart. After his formal retirement he accepted a part-time professorship at the University of Pretoria in South Africa.
Emil Roduner wrote an advanced textbook on Nanoscopic Materials: Size-Dependent Phenomena and Growth Principles (RSC, 2014).
His research interests are broad and include studies on structure, size-effects and magnetism of platinum nano-clusters, mechanisms of elementary steps in catalysis, kinetic isotope effects, degradation and proton conductivity of fuel cell polymer membranes. His present focus is on alternative chemical energy research, in particular in the conversion of CO2 to liquid fuels using solar energy.
