The Symposium was held at the University of British Columbia Robson Square Campus in downtown Vancouver. He presented a keynote address entitled Public Communication: The South African Experience (A Tale of two Cities), in which he addressed some of the internal and external communication-related challenges faced by the City of Tshwane after the amalgamation with the Metsweding District Municipality on 18 May 2011 – creating a “metropolitan area” of 6 368 km².

He also presented a paper on The Education of Valuers in South Africa. He furthermore moderated a session entitled Legal Challenges in a Mass Appraisal Environment.
