SATMO 2016

Posted on August 30, 2016

The fifth edition of the SATMO took place on Saturday, 27 August from 14:00 to 16:00. There were 28 UP students who participated and the three UP top scorers are:
1. Wuzyk Jan (UP) 12 (out of 20). Jan is a second year BSc Mathematics and Applied Mathematics student. Jan is also the third student achiever nationally. The first national score is 19 (out of 20) by an undergraduate student from UCT, while the second national score is 18 (out of 20) by an honours student from US. This places Jan technically the second national undergraduate student achiever at 12 out of 20.
2. De Mûelenaere Ulrik (UP) 9 (out of 20). Ulrik is a first year BSc Computer Science student. He has a tie in the 8th position nationally.
3. Palmer Emma (UP) 7 (out of 20). Emma is a first year BSc Physics student.

Each participant will receive the SAMS certificate and the three UP top scorers will each receive a prize sponsored by the Marketing Committee; our heartfelt gratitudes to this committee for this valuable gesture the top UP scorers.

Thanks are also due to Ruaan Kellerman for the assistance with the marking and the dispatching of the marks to the national office. Ruaan also shot the photos of the participants. The SATMO local organizing committee members, namely Yollanda Dinga and Charles Maepa took care of the event organizational and registration logistics apart from grading and supervision. Charles also invested some time in the training of some of the students. We also thank other members of staff who through announcements in their respective lecture venues and other independent interventions directly or indirectly contributed to the success of the event.

Ronel Oosthuisen is the maverick behind the support of the event via the placing of the placards at the strategic places in the department as well as on the event website. The face of the placard got a facelift in 2016 through her creative input. Olé! Ronel Olé!
