Building upon the work of the United Nations Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial executions and in support of Prof Chr istof Heyns’current work on th e UN Human Rights Committee, the Institute for International and Comparative Law in Africa (ICLA) iscollaborating with research institutions around the world (including at the University of Oxford) to collect national legislation on the use of forceby the police and to produce a comprehensive commentary on the extent to which such laws conform with established international standards.
Students interested in participating in this desktop research alongside international experts are invited to a short briefing about the database, at which Stuart Maslen, Honorary Professor at the University of Pretoria, will introduce the concept and discuss the necessary work.
