During my recent visit to the University of Padua on an Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility Programme (KA171)—Staff Mobility for Teaching and Training, I engaged with faculty and students at the Department of Animal Medicine, Production, and Health, Agripolis Campus. As part of the programme, I delivered three lectures on topics central to veterinary diagnostics and conservation advancements.

The first lecture, titled "Advancements in Equine Piroplasmosis Diagnostics: From Traditional Methods to Molecular Innovations," shared my research progression over the last 10 years in advancing the diagnosis and detection of equine piroplasmosis, highlighting relevant findings that showcase significant improvements in the field.

In my second lecture, "Molecular Detection of Haemoparasites in Rhinos—Enhancing Conservation Strategies," I shared our current research on using molecular diagnostics to detect haemoparasites in rhinos. The presentation emphasised how these approaches may contribute to conservation efforts by providing critical insights into the health monitoring of rhino populations, ultimately aiding in species preservation.

The final lecture, "Haemoparasites in South Africa," explored the diversity of haemoparasites in South Africa, their impact on various animal species, and their relevance to veterinary practice. It also addressed the challenges of managing these parasites and their implications for animal health in both the domestic and wildlife sectors.

In addition to the academic exchange, I had the opportunity to observe and experience a practical training session on the morphological identification of ectoparasites, including mites, ticks, and fleas. This hands-on experience highlighted the value of incorporating digital technology to enhance teaching and learning. Using digital tools in such practical sessions provides a novel and effective way to facilitate learning, offering interactive and immersive experiences that could be integrated into our teaching practices to improve student engagement and comprehension.

I also embraced the opportunity to explore Italy’s rich history, art, and cuisine. Visiting cultural landmarks and experiencing local traditions enhanced my overall experience, allowing me to appreciate Italy's heritage better.

Throughout my visit, I engaged in constructive discussions with colleagues regarding developing joint courses and modules, aiming to further enhance the academic programs at both institutions. We explored various avenues to strengthen research collaborations, share expertise, and expand professional networks, fostering continued cooperation in veterinary science and conservation.

This experience was incredibly valuable. It provided opportunities for knowledge exchange, fostering new collaborations and strengthening international ties, further advancing our shared research and education goals.
