Ayesha Hassim - finalist for Invitrogen Science Hero Award

Posted on October 28, 2015

Invitrogen (Thermo Scientific) hosted the Inaugural Science Hero Awards at the Society for Neuroscience conference 2015, which was held in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The purpose of this award ceremony was to give credit to scientists who do a lot of work behind the scenes, but who cannot be acknowledged in publications. Eight categories were created to represent aspects of daily laboratory activities and contributions made by lab users that make life easier for others.

How it started: Invitrogen put out a call for nominations. The hundreds of nominations from 30 countries around the world were then shortlisted by a panel of judges. The finalists were notified and asked to submit a photograph of themselves in their laboratory. The finalists were presented on the Thermo Scientific website for public votes.

The winner in each category was presented with a trophy worth US$250 at the Society for Neuroscience conference in Chicago on the 18th of October.
