Tick- and tsetse-fly-borne protozoal and rickettsial infections are of great importance in tropical and subtropical Africa. There are currently four programmes addressing various aspects, such as taxonomy, biology and control of the vectors, and epidemiology, diagnosis and control of the diseases.

1.1: Heartwater epidemiology and vaccine development
1.2: Babesiosis in domestic and wild animals
1.3: Theileriosis epidemiology and diagnostics
1.4: Tick taxonomy and biosystematics
1.5: Tsetse and trypanosomosis
