Biography

Luis Neves was born in Beira-Mozambique and completed his undergraduate studies in Veterinary Medicine at the Eduardo Mondlane (EMU), Mozambique. In 1991 completed his MVSc. degree in Applied Parasitology and in 1999 obtained a PhD on in vitro culture and immunodiagnosis of Babesia, both from the University of Liverpool. His main activity for the last 25 years was teaching and research in Veterinary Parasitology at the Eduardo Mondlane University. He served as dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science of the same University from 1999 to 2005. From 2000 to 2005 he leaded the process of establishment of the Biotechnology Center at EMU, which is a joined specialized unit of molecular biology and applied immunochemistry that integrates the Faculties of Agriculture and Forestry, Science, Veterinary Science and the Medical School of EMU. He was the Director of the Biotechnology Center from the inception until July of 2013.He joined the Department of Veterinary Tropical Diseases, Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Pretoria in 2013 as Professor of Veterinary Parasitology. His papers in peer-reviewed journals and at various national and international conferences are mainly in the area of ticks, tick bone diseases and trypanosomes.
