This "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" was likened to UP’s own series of "Breaking Bad".
On 30 July 2012, Perdeby, the student newspaper, reported on a member of the UP staff who had been suspended following his arrest for allegedly manufacturing narcotics. The staff member was a Senior Technical Assistant in the Department of Chemistry. His 15-year-old daughter was his assistant in the crime and was found mixing chemicals when their home was raided by the Hawks. The suspect allegedly purchased the chemicals needed in bulk using the UP Chemistry Department’s name. R20 million worth of mandrax was confiscated.
The University of Pretoria Archives (UPA) preserves the history of the University of Pretoria. The UPA has an extensive photo collection and clipping collection. Please contact us on [email protected] to share your memories of Tukkies or to access our collection.
