On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the student newspaper, Die Perdeby reported on the ANC victory in the recent election.

Along with the rest of South Africa, ANC-TUKS celebrated Nelson Mandela’s victory. The article, featured above, reported the students spontaneously broke out in cries of “One Mandela, One President” and started with the singing of the national   anthem Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika at their offices in Tukkiewerf. Nelson Mandela received an honorary doctorate in Law for his contribution to justice, peace, reconciliation and democracy in South Africa in 1997 from UP.
