Athletics

Sprint sensation Akani Simbine coasted into the men's 100m semi-finals with a time of 10.38, which will be held today Monday 08 July. Simbine had been fastest in the morning qualifiers, clocking 10.36 in the first round.

 

Jacques de Swardt (47.04) finished second in his first-round heats in the men's 400m event, booking his place in today's semi-finals.

 

Rowing

In the B final of the men's lightweight coxless fours, the SA team of James Brittain (younger brother to Matthew Brittain, Olympic Gold Medalist 2012), Gareth Maybery, Devon Miller and Scott Donaldson settled for second place behind the Hungarian quartet.

 

Hockey

The men's hockey team, which includes five players from the TuksHockey Men’s first team, were held to a high-scoring 4-4 draw against a tenacious Italy side in their opening match. Grant Glutz scored one of the 4 goals for South Africa. South Africa will face Poland in their next Group A fixture on today.
