SWC 2022/23 EC

The Executives have reached the final journey of being part of the Student Wellness Committee 2022/23. They played their roles in being part of the committee and gave it their best throughout the term. Student leadership gave them the platform to grow and develop into different individuals.

Here are their highlight of being part of the Executive Members serving the students and growing as individuals:

Chairperson: Mashudu  Lestan Ramashidzha

"With SWC being a special committee, it allows you to be anything you wish it to be, essentially anything can be about wellness. Don't try and compete with other committees, you are not like them, I would say that most committees rely on you guys to carry out some of their mandates. Be the structure that will bridge the gap in the Student body. In everything you do, seek the truth and you won't need a reason."

Secretary: Dineo Kwetepane

"It has been an honor and privilege serving the students of the University of Pretoria through my position of Secretary at the Student Wellness Committee. Not only have I developed an immense passion and love for transformation and accessibility for people living with disabilities, I have learned so much from the role itself. My advice is to fully immerse yourself in whatever you’re doing and to be driven by kindness and compassion. Please put the students first and remember that you’re here to serve not to advance personal ambitions. Please take care of the office of the Secretariat and continue the great work!"

Deputy Secretary: Pam Mabuza

"Being a part of the SWC EC was an honor. An experience attested to me that we all need one another to improve life. To the next EC, unity is power. Work together and help one another when needed. All the best. Forever Wellness".

Treasurer: Emmanuel Monaledi

"In my capacity as a student leader I've learnt a few things which include being able to work integratively with colleagues and respecting them. The term has taught me how to work with passion as my team would always do their duties to the level best. My message to the incoming Treasurer and the EC as a whole is that:Despite all the pressures which may come with executing the mandate, never lose your moral values as a being. Remember being a leader is not just about leading the mass, however it is about creating a space where everyone can feel free to share with you ideas of improvement, innovation and change. I would like to wish you all the best in your term, may it be a fruitful one. From me the financial leader, signing out."

ManDown Liaison: Jodie-Ray Motala

"I sincerely hope the committee gains the support necessary to address the needs of men in UP. I think the most insightful experience of being a liaison, has been the discovery of a need for a space to discuss masculinity. I wish the year had been more fruitful in event planning to bring the experience of the ManDown camp to the campus. In my term, I was blessed to serve with a committee that I believe will go on to make ManDown the voice UP men deserve. A sincere thank you to all committee and society members I had the pleasure of working with."

Marketing And Communications: Loveness Rakgantsho

"Being part of SWC made me realize that Student Leadership is the part of University that you do not want to miss out on. I am glad that I got the opportunity to walk on this path with such amazing individuals on my side. Student Wellness is the place where I fell in love with Marketing, will forever be grateful for the role I was given. I had the opportunity to form bonds that will last me a lifetime, develop new skills, and find my passion. Engaging with different students who come from different backgrounds made me realize that we all experience challenges in this life all we have to do is find a way to face them head-on and always know that we all have the same end goal. To the incoming EC, SWC will become your second family that will be made up of different characters that you will need to learn how to work with in achieving a common goal. Remember to give it your all and have a blast."

Transformation: Kelebogile Makahane

"My experience as the transformation Officer for the student wellness committee was a learning and informative journey. I got exposed to challenges that students face such as sexual assaults and I got to be educated in that regard as to helping students who have been assaulted as they are not to be called victims but survivors.
The Student Wellness Committee has further equipped me to be a more innovative and responsible person who takes full accountability for their actions. In that being said I wish the next committee a successful and pleasant term."

Communication and Engagement: Akanyang Maragoa

"I would like to thank the DSA for giving me this opportunity, to exercise my passion for serving students diligently and the team, I’m grateful to have met you all and also leave the term with a lifetime of memories!"

Residence: Xolani Masemola

"You will have moments compelling you to quit, but it all comes down to your resilience and your ability to rise above all those obstacles. To the next residence officer enjoy your term, keep your head up, and have an open mind for learning. It's OK to feel like u don't know what you are doing but remember the other EC members are your support structure so always reach out to them."

We are wellness! We are health! There's no one we won't help!!!
