An event where we assisted students to recharge after the second quarter. It's no secret that sometimes motivation to keep up with the academic year diminishes as the year progresses especially when one seems to be facing challenges academically. We had different topics for each week which were mental health, physical health, exam tips and graduate success stories. To make students feel included we had an art segment in which students could submit art that relates to the topic of the week and it was posted on SWC’s Instagram page.
This was webinar that took place in August, celebrating Women's month. Due to Covid-19 regulations, the event was took place virtually. We hosted a panel discussion with guest speakers from SpeakOut, Up&Out and UP SRC who unpacked the social issues that are faced by women. The SWC aimed to create a safe space where students were able to become more aware of these issues and futhermore disucss their experiences and opinions in a safe, facillitated envirnoment.
The idea of the campaign was to create a mind space that is healthier and positive. This campaign was aimed at encouraging and motivating students for the new semester. Furthermore, to encourage those who did not achieve the results that they were expecting for first semester. Professional advice from a Student Counselling Unit (SCU) psychologist, Mrs Nthabiseng Ramothwala, was invited to help shed light on certain topics relevant to students.
First week of the 20223 academic year, SWC among other committees welcomed the first-year students to the University Of Pretoria at the Hatfield Campus. We got an opportunity to engage with the students, define what student wellness is all about and give tips on how to practice safe sexual intercourse. The committee had so much fun and was really satisfied with the love they received from all the students. We can not wait to have another interaction like this.
