Prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs):

  1. Practice safe sex: The most effective way to prevent the transmission of STIs is to use condoms every time you engage in sexual activity.

  2. Get tested regularly: Regular testing is essential in detecting and treating STIs early. You should get tested at least once a year or more frequently if you have multiple partners.

  3. Limit your number of sexual partners: The more sexual partners you have, the greater your risk of exposure to STDs. Limiting your number of partners can reduce your risk.

  4. Avoid risky behavior: Substance abuse and high-risk sexual behavior such as unprotected sex with multiple partners can increase the risk of STIs.

  5. Get vaccinated: Vaccines are available for some STIs, such as HPV and Hepatitis B. Consult with your campus clinic to determine if vaccination is a good fit for you.

  6. Know your partner's sexual health status: It's important to have open and honest communication about your sexual health and history and to consider getting tested together.

Remember, the best way to prevent STIs is to make informed and responsible choices about your sexual health. If you have any concerns or questions, consult your campus clinic.

Why it is important to use a condom during sex:

  1. Effective barrier: Condoms create a physical barrier that prevents the exchange of bodily fluids, which is a common way that STIs are transmitted.
  2. Reduces risk: When used correctly and consistently, condoms can significantly reduce the risk of transmission of STIs, including HIV.

  3. Easy to access: Condoms are widely available and accessible, making them an easy and convenient method of STI prevention.

  4. Affordable: Condoms are relatively inexpensive and do not require a prescription, making them a cost-effective way to protect against STIs.

  5. Protects against unintended pregnancy: In addition to preventing STIs, condoms are also an effective method of birth control and can help prevent unintended pregnancy.

It is important to use condoms correctly and consistently every time you have sex to ensure maximum protection against STIs. If you have any concerns or questions about using condoms, consult your campus clinic.
